I've just finished reading my third book of the summer (and just to clarify, I did not read these three books in the past week, as that is how it looks from posts. I just started recording down my responses. From here on, it should remain accurate). I'm torn with the story. Don't get me wrong, it is a page turner. I wanted to read more to know more. However, now that it is over, I reflect on something that Margo tells Quentin, "the pleasure isn't in doing the thing; the pleasure is in planning it" (233). I completely agree that the reading of the novel was way more enjoyable than finishing it; if that makes any sense at all. Needless to say, I will pay to see the movie in theaters. I may be able to wait and Redbox it, but highly doubt it. It is a true coming of age story. There is no "happily ever after," as their story is not over, which is what I think Green intended. Too many times we read something and have the satisfied feeling at the end. This is not one of those times, and I'm okay with it. Below is the trailer if you are interested. I will make the statement that the book will be better than the movie. Even though everyone knows it, I think they sometimes forget and need the reminder. There was that one time that I think the movie was better than the book, but I can't think of which one. | image from http://dailypapertowns.tumblr.com/ |
